About our Camp

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a structured summer program for students who require more than traditional environments can offer. At Excel Learning Academy, we believe challenging behavior is not something to avoid, fear, or view negatively. It is something to understand.

Our program is grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles and focuses on building:

• Emotional regulation

• Self-advocacy
• Communication skills
• Social awareness
• Confidence
• Independence

• Positive staff rapport

Activities

Our summer program blends structured academic instruction, social-emotional learning, and supervised recreation within a predictable daily schedule.

Each week includes:

• Individualized academic skill-building
• Social skills and communication practice
• Executive functioning and independence tasks
• Movement and outdoor activities
• Collaborative group activities
• Supervised recreational time

Activities are intentionally designed to build cooperation, flexibility, problem-solving, and recovery after setbacks — not simply to keep students busy.

Students benefit from a consistent schedule to the day, clear transitions, and supportive adult guidance throughout all activities.

Behavior Support

All staff at ELA are trained in approved behavior management strategies that consist of a variety of ABA principles geared towards teaching our students coping skills, independence, and how to advocate for themselves. Our behavior management strategies include proactive and reactive procedures that are tailored to each student and designed in a manner to promote long-term success. Our ABA team at ELA provides ongoing monitoring and evaluation of each student to ensure any behavior intervention strategies being used are effective and accepted.

When challenges arise, our focus is on teaching replacement skills, reinforcing de-escalation, and maintaining safety — not sending students home as a default response. Safety remains our priority at all times, and our staffing model is designed to provide the supervision and support necessary to address behavioral intensity appropriately.

Our goal is long-term skill development, independence, self-advocacy, and stability — not short-term compliance.

ELA also welcomes outside therapies to assist during camp hours with written approval from the camper's family and ELA administrative staff.
